Saltash Rugby Club - Brief History

1969/70Saltash Rugby Club is formed and play their first fixtures, at the time playing at the nearby Comprehensive School and drinking
at The Railway Hotel.
1982/83The Club is moved to Moorlands Lane where it has its own pitch with a second pitch at the Chapel Field in Saltash. The club home is now the Rodney Inn.
1987/88The advent of League Rugby sees Saltash assigned to Cornwall Division One.
1990/91Saltash win Cornwall One in a final decider at home to Falmouth and are promoted to Cornwall and Devon League.
Other trophies in the locker see them beat Bude in the Cornwall Junior Cup Final and Tavistock in the Launceston
Floodlit Cup.
Saltash also play the County Champions Cornwall as part of their 20th Anniversary Celebrations.
1991/92Saltash's Cornwall and Devon League Campaign sees them finish in 5th position and promoted to Western Counties (West)
in a league re-structure.
1992/93A tough season for Saltash sees them win just 2 league games and the are relegated back into the Cornwall and Devon
League.
1993/94Another hard season and the freefall continues as Saltash are relegated back to Cornwall One after Falmouth send a
weakened side to OPMs and the home side win.
1998/99Saltash improve their facilities with the completion of a new training block attached to the Club house.
Work on the building is done by and large by the players under the guidance of Chair Pete Congo and Project manager Dave Pickup It is officially opened
by Club Stalwarts Peter Jackett, Reg Dickerson and Bill Ryan.
2000/01Saltash win Cornwall One in a final match decider at home to Wadebridge 20-19 and are promoted to Cornwall and Devon League.
Saltash win the Lockie Cup in a one sided match against OPOs.
2001/02Life in the higher league us once again shortlived as Saltash are relegated back to Cornwall One.
2003/04Saltash win the RNEC Cup 26-5 against St Columba.
A youth section is set up in November 2003 and proves popular.
2004/05In their 35th Anniversary Season wins over Plymouth Combination 41-10 and Cornwall Clubs 35-12 help them warm up for their
play off for promotion at Honiton where they go down 49-21.
2006/07Saltash win the Lockie Cup in a tight match against OPOs 13-10, cheered on by members across all age groups and the night serves well to unite the club in celebrations.
The youth section continues to thrive and is now the 4th largest youth section in the county with almost 300 members under 18 years of age.
Saltash Under 17s win their national plate Semi-Final against Liskeard/Looe and are beaten 29-7 in the final, again there is a agood deal of support from across the club.
2007/08Saltash win Cornwall One with a 6-5 win over Liskeard/Looe, they also win the Lockie Cup against Plymouth Barbarians
in a tense match 19-11.
2008/09Back in Cornwall and Devon League where they struggle to make any impact.

2009/10The club celebrates it's 40 th birthday but little else to celebrate as they are officially relegated but saved by restructuring of the league to fight again in the CD League for another season.The visit of Buzancais however lightens the atmosphere.
