Having played each other before, it was clear that this was going to be a tough game. Both teams were ready and raring to go.
Jo O'Reilly opened the scoring 5 minutes in, quickly followed by Harriet Housam to take it to 10-0 . Shortly after, Gail Pringle extended the score line to 15-0 with a glorious hard fought try.
Keeping St Austell well back in their own half, Phoenixes were strong in attack with Hatti Ship (captain) scoring another try before being beautifully converted by Leah Bates. This took the score line to 22-0 in to half time.
With a half time chat on board, Lisa Pringle reopened the scoreline with a try making it 27-0. Charlene Vietch followed up with a beautiful run. With the team shouting behind her, she scored her try with some force making it 32-0.
Valkyries held their nerve and got the ball out to the backs, and scored their only try of the game, with a speedy run down the wing to put some points on the board.
Not content with one, Lisa Pringle decided to celebrate her birthday early, and scored another try, making the score 37-5. Phoenixes held their own with a strong defence whilst the Valkyries kept pushing to get another try. Saltash proved too strong, with Gail Pringle getting one more try in taking it to a final score of 42-5 to the Phoenixes.
With Saltash RFC celebrating the reopening of the newly resurfaced and renamed OMG pitch, with 3 matches on the pitch, it was the Phoenixes that secured the only win at the weekend after a weekend of magnificent rugby from the club.
