The Ashes first home game of the season proved a thriller in front of their Vice Presidents and a bumper crowd.
The home side started the stronger and were on the board after hooker Fin Jones dived over for the try, converted by scrum half Jack Pritchard.
The new look Saltash side got into their stride and a free flowing move put veteran winger Jay Moriarty over or a try, which Pritchard converted.
Before the break it was all St Ives as they added a we taken try, and 2 penalties to turn around 14-11 down.
The home side nudged themselves ahead further with another Moriarty try for 19-11, before a purple patch for the visitors saw them score 2 tries, a conversion to hit the front at 30-19.
With a quarter of the game remaining it was all to play for for the home side, edging closer with 2penalty goals from Pritchard, followed by a try from prop Liall Honey capping a fine performance.
St Ives added a penalty to maintain their lead at 33-30, and with the visitors ending with 13 men, Saltash couldnt quite get over the line to seal the league win.
