Our training sessions have been strong right from the start of the season but I've just felt a big step in development this last week, with both backs and forwards really buying into the systems we have implemented.
Our marker for success was to keep our structure, when the game allowed, and to show clarity on what was required in each area of the pitch, and I thought we did that very well.... we have been guilty of some very questionable decisions in recent weeks, which has allowed the opposition to stay in the game, but there was none off that yesterday !! I felt each player performed their role very well and when Services did get break through our set defence, we scrambled brilliantly.
Men of the match were Joe Downlan, who's strong carries constantly got us over the gain line and more importantly he looked like a real team player, working hard in defence and connecting with his fellow forwards. 2nd man of the match was Jake Gamble who was superb in the 13 shirt ! Lovely balanced running, aggressive defence and multiple turn overs made him stand out in what was a very slick back line.
The usual characters performed brilliantly but a little mention to Joe Elvidge at fullback, Leo on the wing and Seth at 9, all 3 players showed huge progress in their personnel development yesterday. Also, on a side note, a massive pat on the back for the multiple Ashes players who supported Services. Each one of you got them over the gain line and I was very proud of you for giving everything against your team mates !!!! I won't lie I was worried when we gave them some of our best ball carriers, but our D stayed strong
