A penalty after 5 minutes by Kieran Down got the visitors onto the scoreboard but Newquay came back with their own penalty 13 minutes later. However, a good move on the right saw Kristian Davis cross the home line after 20 minutes to put the Ashes ahead again only for Newquay to reply with another penalty. Saltash were reduced to 14 when a yellow card was shown but they held Newquay at bay with some good defence. Once back to full strength Jay Moriarty broke through after 39 minutes and touched down by the posts for Kieran Down to convert to bring the interval score to 6-15.
Newquay started the second half strongly with a penalty after 42 minutes only for Kieran Down to put over his second penalty of the game. Kristian Davis then scored a brilliant individual try after 55minutes when he ran through the home defence before Jay Moriarty secured the bonus point with a try on the left wing. Saltash defended well against some late Newquay attacks and got the final try of the game just before the end with a third try from Jay Moriarty which was converted. This was a harder game for the Ashes than in recent weeks but they came through it without conceding a try even when reduced to 14 in the first half.
For Saltash Lewis Wells got through a lot of work in the forwards as did Liall Honey and Kristian Davis played and ran well in the back division while Kieran Down contributed with penalties and conversions. However, the lineouts need some improvement.
